Artist Biography
Serge van Neck is a fine art photographer focused on urban and rural landscapes. Born and raised in the Netherlands, Serge spent most of his adult life in the Phoenix, Arizona area, where in 2014 he started photography as a serious hobby. In 2018 he moved to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota where he was inspired to photograph the landscape as well as rural life. He later became a member of Professional Photographers of America and earned his CPP certification in 2021. Since moving to Sioux Falls in 2021, Serge has immersed himself in street photography, using digital as well as analog media. One of his favorite photo spots is the downtown area, but he also enjoys photographing his own historic neighborhood as well as the various parks in and around the city.
Artist statement
One World. Many Lenses.℠
I believe that the earth is a single homeland for all of humanity, and that the diversity of the human race is a cause for celebration, not conflict. That diversity is not only expressed in different nationalities, ethnicities, cultures and languages, but also in different world views and perspectives. Everyone perceives the world through their own “lens”. In the same way, the photographer captures not what is objectively there, but rather what the camera lens perceives. And of course, a photographer can never have too many lenses!
